- The position serves as a Senior Fire Dispatcher located in a dispatch center in support of fire suppression activities.
- Performs and directs others in receiving fire reports, determining location, and status, and current fire information.
- Coordinates aviation dispatch operations.
- Determines appropriate resource response to incidents and request from the field and dispatches personnel, equipment, aircraft, and/or supplies.
- Based upon current wildland fire suppression activity and utilizing prior wildland firefighting experience and training, anticipates fire suppression needs and determines resource allocation.
- Operates and/or directs the operation of various dispatch telecommunications systems.
- Provides critical logistical support information to supervisor and makes recommendations concerning the efficient uses of available resources.
- Records and maintains communications logs.
This is a secondary/administrative fire position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS). While secondary positions are not subject to the maximum entry age policy, the selectee must have prior service in a primary position and meet the transfer requirement for movement from a primary to secondary position to be eligible for special retirement coverage. THIS IS A DRUG TESTING DESIGNATED POSITION. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and working at peak proficiency/intensity levels with irregular breaks and mealtimes.
