The position's primary duties will be to triage and take action as appropriate on telephone requests from all pharmacy customers including Veterans, caregivers, nurses, providers, and external customers such as nursing homes. They must process patient's requests appropriately, applying knowledge of pharmacy practice, VA regulations, and hospital procedure, seeking assistance from clinical staff for urgent concerns. To assure that patients receive quality care in a timely fashion, the pharmacy technician must maintain a working knowledge of all pharmacy systems and processes.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Physical demands do not exceed those of a typical office setting. There may be some walking, standing, twisting, turning, sitting, pushing, bending, repetitive keyboarding, or carrying of light items. Some positions may require sitting for long periods of time at a computer terminal typing data while talking on a telephone headset.

(c) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot
operational problems and
refer for appropriate action.
2. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment.
3. Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding
with aseptic technique for
hazardous materials such as oncology agents.
4. Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for
routine sterile products.
5. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized
areas such as
emergency carts.
6. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the
ability to input prescriptions
and medication orders.
