The incumbent serves as a medical center police officer in the Police Service. The incumbent enforces federal and appropriate state criminal codes and VA regulations originating in federal statues in the physical protection of patients, visitors, and employees; the physical protection of property of the U.S. Government and personal property on facility grounds; the protection of the civil rights of all individuals while on federally owned property; and in the preservation of the peaceful environment requisite to the operation of medical treatment programs.
This position is located in Police Service located at the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Police Officer Lieutenant serves as an armed uniformed supervisory police officer and is under the immediate supervision of the Chief of Police.
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Plan work schedules and sequence of operations on weekly, project/Ad Hoc, or longer basis.
Revise work schedules to meet changes in workload based on peak loads, manpower available and time requirements.
Review work in progress or upon completion, providing guidance on quality of work and any additional investigation or information that needs to be added.

Physical Requirements:
Requires moderate - arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature (i.e. frequent climbing of multiple flights of stairs, standing for prolonged periods of time, lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs, crouching/crawling in restrictive areas during search/pursuit activities, or defending oneself/others against physical attack). Work requires frequent exposure to inclement weather conditions, i.e. rain & extreme cold in winter & extreme heat in summer, while on outside patrol, couples with high humidity factors.
Must also be able to participate regularly for in service and position related training, which includes physical training that involves considerable stamina and endurance.

The Cincinnati VAMC is a dual campus facility. The Ft. Thomas Division is located at Ft. Thomas, Kentucky.
