AIR SUPPORT SQUADRON COMMANDER, GS-0301-13
This position is located in an Air National Guard (ANG), Component Numbered Air Force (cNAF), Air Operations Group (AOG), Air Support Squadron (ACOS). The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a supervisor over the ACOS. The organization has a federal and state mission. The ACOS mission is to develop policy and procedures for designated DOD programs and to provide oversight and management of NGB, Numbered Air Force (NAF) and COCOM programs. A full- time and traditional Headquarters staff, led by the ACOS Commander, supports 217th AOG, NAF and COCOM organizations worldwide. The federal mission is to provide trained and qualified Command and Control warriors for the primary augmentation, reachback and distributed operations for all assigned ACOS and/or to augment MAJCOM deployable AOCs worldwide at the operational level of war. The state mission is to provide support to civil authorities, as directed by the Governor, for disaster relief, public safety, search and rescue, and civil defense. Must be trained and ready to function in a senior level position reporting to the cNAF Commander. Directs unit preparations for unit members to function at the operational level of war. Exercises a working knowledge of Air Force ACOS Weapon Systems and their capabilities, as well as a clear understanding of the systems and capabilities of other DOD components, NATO nations, and other coalition partners. Exercises knowledge of civil and military matters pertaining to the state military organization and force structure, training, readiness and mobilization; multi-service contingency planning and execution; and joint civilian/federal/military operations. Performs long-term planning and organizational development necessary to accomplish air operations group functions in support of programs essential to the state ANG daily operations, training, and readiness missions. Fosters an environment conducive to teaming among service providers and customers to meet state Air/Army National Guard requirements. Due to the unique mission of the cNAF, this PD cannot be used in any other organization.
(1) Directly supports the commander as a senior staff member in a large unit.
(2) Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of ACOS staff components.
(3) Directs, coordinates, and oversees the work of through subordinate personnel supervisors.
a. Ensures reasonable equity among unit performance standards developed, modified, and/or interpreted and rating techniques developed by subordinate supervisors.
b. Hears and resolves group grievances and employee complaints referred by subordinate supervisors and employees.
c. Reviews developmental needs of employees and makes decisions on non-routine, costly or controversial training needs and/or requests for unit employees.
d. Discharges security responsibilities by ensuring education and compliance with security directives for employees with access to classified or sensitive material.
e. Applies EEO principles and requirements to all personnel management actions and decisions, and ensures all personnel are treated in a manner free of discrimination.
(4) Represents the organization with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
(5) Performs all other duties as assigned.
