Experience required:

For the GS-05: composing or reviewing various documents to include legal documents, reports, and formal correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
For the GS-06: composing or reviewing various documents to include legal documents, reports, and formal correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
For the GS-05, you must have one year time-in-grade at the GS-04 or equivalent.
For the GS-06, you must have one year time-in-grade at the GS-05 or equivalent.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
For GS-05: 4 years of education above high school - You must submit copy of your transcripts with application.
OR
Specialized experience but less than 1 year AND more than 2 years of education. Compute the percentage of the requirements met, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying education by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond 2 years by 30. Add the two percentages together. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to quality) You must submit a copy of your transcripts with application.
For the GS-06 there is no educational substitution for specialized experience.
