About the Position:
This recruitment is for three Natural Resources Specialist (Ranger) GS-05/07/09 developmental positions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ft. Worth District, Operations Division, Piney Woods Regional Office in Jefferson, TX. Positions may be filled at either the GS-5/7 or 9 levels. Promotion to the target grade level will be through the intervening grade of GS-07. Promotion is at the discretion of management.

A combination of education and experience - Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus an appropriate combination of education and experience generally requires that an applicant possess a core of educational credit, such as described in paragraph above, plus additional education and/or experience. The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
The 0401 Natural Resource Specialist (Ranger) occupation has specific educational requirements which apply to all positions. You must possess one of the options below: Education above the high school level must have been completed in a U.S. college, university, or other educational institution that has been accredited by one of the accredited agencies or associations recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)
A. Have a Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related disciplines would be zoology, forestry, fisheries biology, wildlife ecology, environmental law, biology, botany, range management, geology, and other biological science courses. The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. The nature and quality of this required course work must have been such that it would serve as a prerequisite for more advanced study in the field or subject-matter area. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)

B. Have a combination of education and experience -- Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Appropriate combination of education and experience generally requires that an applicant possess a core of educational credit, such as described in paragraph A above, plus additional education and/or experience. The method of determining the number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the same as described in paragraph A. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)
EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position you may qualify for the GS-7 or GS-9 levels if you meet the education requirements as well as the substitutions below:
GS-7 - Substitution - Have a bachelor's degree and superior academic achievement OR have completed one full year of graduate level education leading to a master's degree in an area that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work, e.g. biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

GS-9 - Substitution - Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in an area that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work, e.g. biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR some experience as described in Specialized experience requirement, but less than one year; and I have more than one year but less than two years of graduate education as described in this substitution.
