The duties of this position will require you to perform or assists with a variety of forestry management activities such as fire pre-suppression or suppression, timber sale preparation and timber stand improvement. Operates a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Designates timber to be cut and left in order to accomplish predetermined goals for the sale area and increase the broad spectrum of biological diversity, considering factors such as stand configuration, plant associations, and desired future conditions. Collect and record data such as common species of trees, measurement of heights and diameters and tree mortality or tree survival counts. Performs work directly related to wildland fire suppression and control activities including suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, hazardous fuels reduction, and prescribed burning for habitat enhancement. Carry out specialized assignments such as tree falling, backfire, and burnout operations.

Work Environment:
The work is frequently performed outside in varying weather conditions and involves exposure to hazards such as forest or range fires. Takes special precautions and wears protective equipment suitable to field conditions. Fire-resistant clothing and hard hat and gloves will be issued. May encounter unknown explosives or incendiary devices that are unstable and highly sensitive while working fires or controlled burns.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. experience is considered to be a period of no less than 3 months of continuous
employment on a seasonal basis. Shorter periods may be combined to make a
season, provided a total of at least 3 months' experience is shown. For any
period where the work exceeded 3 months, the excess work is credited towards an
additional season of experience. Examples of qualifying specialized experience
include: Forestry aid or technician work. Engineering, range, or soil
conservation technician work that involved the application of cultural, resource
conservation, or land management practices on non-forest or ranch lands when
combined with knowledge of forestry operations and equipment. Farming or
ranching work that involved application of cultural and soil and water
conservation practices, including safety and use of equipment, and that
provided a basic understanding of land use. Forest or range fire control,
prevention, or suppression work.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
