About the Position:
Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. Click here for more information on Pathways program participation.
For this internship, you must be able to work full-time when not attending classes (i.e. summers, fall and spring breaks, etc.) and as much as feasible when classes are in session. You must be available to work in the geographic location of the advertised job while still maintaining a student status.
This intern position is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation as an Engineering Technician. Interns will be assigned tasks designed to increase familiarity with the target occupation in a real world work environment.
This opportunity follows a standard promotional path:
1. Internship selections will be made at the GS-02, GS-03 or GS-04 level.
2. After completion of Internship requirements, you may be eligible for conversion to the entry level for the target occupation. Entry level for these positions are typically at the GS-GS-05 or GS-07 level. The actual grade level at the time of conversion depends on academic achievement and other factors.
3. The full performance level of this occupation will be GS-09 or GS-11, depending on the particular vacancy being filled. Progression from the entry level to the full performance level fro this occupation will depend on successful completion of all requirements for promotion. Promotions may be considered after a year at each grade level, but are not guaranteed to occur on a specific time schedule.

Positions are open to current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution. Engineering technicians work in a variety of unique work situations, often aligned with professional engineering and architecture fields and each with a fairly distinct set of knowledge and skill requirements. The work involves functions such as research, development, design, evaluation, construction, inspection, production, application, standardization, testing, or operation of engineering facilities, structures, systems, processes, equipment, devices, or materials.

Engineering Technician (Civil)-
Work concerned with buildings, structures, dams, soil mechanics, tunnels, highways, water resources, bridges, airports, railways, and other phases of civil engineering.
Engineering Technician (Electrical)-
Work concerned with systems, plants, equipment, and materials for the generation, transmission, conversion, distribution, control, measurement, or utilization of electrical energy.
Engineering Technician (General)-
Work concerned with construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials.
Engineering Technician (Mechanical)-
Work concerned with systems, plants, machines, equipment, and instruments for the generation, transmission, measurement, or utilization of heat or mechanical power.

To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-04 level, students must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study or have an associate's degree. Two full academic years is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent two years of full-time study.
