These are temporary, part-time (20 hrs/week) positions not-to-exceed 1 year, and may be extended in 1 year increments up to 8 years in total, as long as the student remains eligible for the program.
The Agricultural Research Service is seeking qualified students to participate in the Pathways Internship Program. This temporary appointment is expected to begin in May/June 2017. Internships are open to individuals who have been accepted for enrollment or who are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) from a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis. Students seeking degrees in Library Sciences are highly desired.
These positions are located in the National Agricultural Library (NAL), Information Products Division (IPD), Information & Customer Services Branch (ICSB), Nutrition & Food Safety Program (NFSP). NFSP includes both the Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) and the Food Safety Research Information Office (FSRIO).
The primary purpose of this position is to support the Technical Information Specialists in both nutrition and food safety with website development, reference, communications, and content development, including conducting literature research for trends in specific areas such as nutrition, sustainability, food safety, and other areas to envision new products and services; provide services to NAL and its partners, ARS, USDA personnel, researchers, scholars and the public. The employee also provides traditional library services and information to a variety of national and international users of NAL.
