This position functions in the inpatient section of Pharmacy Service and performs under the general oversight of a supervisory Pharmacy Technician. The incumbent's primary duties will provide more complex assistance of a technical, specialized and support nature to healthcare medical personnel with regard to the automated distribution and preparation of unit-dose prepackaged pharmaceuticals. Sets up, adjusts and operates complex automated dispensing devices and equipment that supports the treatment of patients. Sets up and adjusts equipment with multiple and varied features that requires consistent and precise calibration to operate correctly. Sets equipment parameters based on manufacturer or individual characteristics of the medication to be packaged. The incumbent, after finishing assigned duties, will assist other associates in their task so that patient care will be facilitated. Prepares packing equipment for daily use and performs general equipment troubleshooting. Routinely packages unit-dose pharmaceuticals in an efficient and error free manner consistent with prescribed guidelines. The technician activity will include drug distribution, controlled substances handling, ordering drugs, restocking the Operating Room Pharmacy and medication carts; orientation and training of new staff and quality-assurance activities. Sufficiently restocks ROBOT-RX and replenishes offline inventory with prepackaged unit-dose pharmaceuticals to ensure availability for daily cart fills and dispensing. Recognizes and identifies inventory shortages and alerts procurement of medications required to be packaged to ensure inventories are at optimal levels.
WORK SCHEDULES: Monday-Friday 07:00a.m. - 3:30p.m., with rotating weekends and holidays.
POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE/PD: Pharmacy Technician Inpatient (RX-Robotic).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Moderate lifting: (15-44 pounds); Moderate Carrying (15-44 pounds); Straight Pulling (less than 30 minutes); Pushing (less than 30 minutes); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 6 hours); Standing (up to 6 hours); repeated bending (up to 1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; hearing (aid permitted).

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Non citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3g, this part).
Education or Experience. A high school diploma or equivalent.
Certification. Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board(PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above.
English Language Proficiency. Pharmacy Technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with Chapter 2, Section D, paragraph 5a, this part.
GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
Creditable Experience: To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with the scope of Pharmacy Technician practice.
Quality of Experience: To be creditable, Pharmacy Technician experience must be documented on the application and verified in an employment reference, or through other independent means.
GRADE DETERMINATION:
In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following creiteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates:
GS-06
Experience. One year experience at the next lower level, and must fully meet the KSA's at the next lower level.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSA's and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSA's designated by and asterisk(*).
1. Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer for appropriate action.
2. Knowledge of the operation and care of automated equipment.
3. Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents.
4. Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products.
5. Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas such as emergency carts.
6. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process demonstrated by the ability to input prescriptions and medication orders.
Assignments. Pharmacy technicians may be assigned to any area of the pharmacy including expanded distributive function assignments; for example assignment as team leaders for specific process improvement teams involving technical areas or performing more highly complex duties including preparation of oncology agents for clinical pharmacy specialists.For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time
