ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture.
The Grape Genetics Research Unit is looking for a Research Molecular Biologist or Research Geneticist (Plants) to provide research support. The incumbent is to conduct research on the genomics and molecular genetics of grapevine resistance to powdery mildew.

The incumbent will apply modern genetic and genomic tools and cellular phenotypic analysis to functionally characterize candidate resistance genes for grapevine powdery mildew in stable transformants of grapevine and Arabidopsis. Methods will include molecular genetic and genomic analysis of gene integration and expression, genetic or pharmaceutical characterization of mechanisms, and quantitative microscopy following controlled inoculation with the pathogen. The incumbent will leverage existing genetic and genomic resources to make rapid progress.

This position requires a recent Ph.D in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Also, applicant must have skills using molecular genetic and genomic techniques, Arabidopsis manipulation, sterile techniques, and cellular microscopy.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
