The incumbent serves as a Wood Crafter (CNC) Leader, leading WG-10 Wood Crafters and a Wood Crafter (CNC) WG-11 operator of Gravograph New Hermes signage machine in making and repairing high-grade wooden items such as fine cabinetry and furniture.

Duties

Help

The tour of duty for this position is Monday – Friday 4:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Distribute tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group; work along with other workers and set the pace; demonstrate proper work methods; ensure that needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained; obtain necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift; maintain current knowledge on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives; see to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy; check work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been followed; urge or advise other workers to follow supervisor’s instructions and to meet deadlines; report to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays; and answer supervisors’ questions on overall work operations and problems.
  • Provide or receive training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized.
  • Create design and fabricate high-grade cabinetry, furniture, woodwork and signs via various CNC machinery (New Hermes Gravograph, Epilogue, Direct Color Systems UV LED printer, Techno CNC Router).
  • Generate detailed plans, specifications and schematics to manufacture unique furniture for Congressional Members. 
  • Select, cut, turn, shape, join, bond, fit, assemble and decorate wooden materials and parts, using the full range of hand and power woodworking tools, machines and techniques to create superior and structurally reliable woodwork which requires exact fitting and close weight, pressure and size tolerances to construct specialty furniture.
