Help

  • Supports USCENTCOM Defensive Cyberspace Operations.
  • US Central Command, Command and Control Communications and Computer Systems Directorate, Cybersecurity Division, Multi-Tier Cyberspace Security Operations Cell (CSOC) complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Enhances overall Cybersecurity Program and Cyber vigilance campaign efforts.
  • Performs Cyber Vigilance Campaign Integration.
  • Participates in discussions, meetings, committees or special projects and presents briefings and prepares recommendations and reports.
  • Prepares budget, technical reports, staff studies, and briefings.

  • Position designated special-sensitive and requires TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Info (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive info, or involvement in TS Special Access Programs.
  • A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission, national security, and public safety.
  • Incumbent is required to: (a) refrain from the use of illegal drugs and misuse of prescription medication, and (b) if requested, submit to urinalysis testing on short notice. Incumbent must pass initial and may be selected for random drug testing.
  • May be subject to reasonable suspicion testing, safety mishap, or accident testing. The selectee must sign a statement acknowledging the position occupied is identified as a TDP.
  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
  • Per DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program IAM Level II or its replacement based on DoDD 8140.01, Cyberspace Workforce Management -Advanced, employee must achieve appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment
  • A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3.
  • This is a Mission Essential position performing a Mission Critical Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Work may require periodic TDY travel (CONUS and OCONUS) aboard commercial and military aircraft; including hostile areas of operations.
  • Incumbent is subject to recall during off-shift hours seven days week/twenty-four hours per day.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving AND have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-12) or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Utilizing communications, network security regulations, services, and instructions to ensure network security systems are in compliance with applicable regulations and instructions; applying operational and performance characteristics of networks and security systems to develop procedures, policies, and best practices; reviewing, analyzing, and resolving difficult and complex problems involving networks/systems compatibility, both installation-wide and external interoperability and the data paths they traverse; and developing, providing guidance on, and applying policies, methods, procedures, and techniques in network/systems design and installation to operating situations and problem resolutions.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of a wide range of DoD telecommunications, cloud and network security theories, concepts, principles, and practices, procedures, policies, standards, operational requirements to relate to user requirements.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cyber defense and information security.
  • Knowledge of operational and performance characteristics of DoD cyber security, cyber threats/vulnerabilities, cybersecurity, cloud, and network security to develop procedures/policies/practices for command use and cyber activities.
  • Knowledge of incident response and handling methodologies.
  • Knowledge of associated methods and techniques such as contracting procedures/legal requirements, cost analyses, and budgets.
  • Knowledge of network security architecture concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles (e.g., application of defense-in-depth), Intrusion Detection System (IDS)/Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) tools and applications, firewalls, and cyber monitoring applications (e.g., Security Information and Event Management (SIEMs), Comply to Connect (C2C), etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to identify, and coordinate actions required in providing needed service.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
