Physical Demands: Requires strenuous and rigorous physical activity including periods of standing, walking over rough terrain, recurring bending, crouching, and squatting, stretching, reaching. lifting and carrying heavy objects. Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or austere environments. Must be capable of preforming arduous duties in changing climatic conditions to include winter and summer seasons. On occasion may carry a backpack as heavy as 50 pounds. Must be able to work in situations that can be hazardous. Dangerous persons, many of whom are known to carry weapons, must be physically confronted, subdued, and apprehended.
Working Conditions: Everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of office settings and passenger vehicles. Must work in environments outside of office settings and require work outdoors, day or night, in all types and conditions of weather and terrain. Prolonged periods of rigorous physical exertion may be required when responding to law enforcement incidents, search and rescue, fire, and other emergency operations. Required to wear a firearm as part of the defensive and protective equipment, or gear such as electronic control devices, pepper spray, additional weapons platforms, and duty belts. Assignments will have periods of high stress that is reoccurring and detrimental to both the physical and mental health.
