The Pathways Summer Intern Program provides paid work experiences for students to work areas such as finance, communications, technology, policy, personnel, and business.

This is a summer 2023 internship position.

These positions are temporary, not to exceed 90 days. This position may be extended or non-competitively converted to a permanent position.

Help

As a Student Trainee (Program Support), you will be selected to work in one of the following offices: the Office of Examination & Insurance (E&I), the Office of Consumer Financial Protection (OCFP), the Office of Ethics Counsel (OEC), the Office of External Affairs and Communications (OEAC), and Financial Technology and Access (FinTech). As a result, you will have the opportunity to support programs in the areas of finance, technology, and ethics. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • E&I oversees the NCUA's supervision and examination program that ensures the safety and soundness of federally insured credit unions and manages risk to the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. Duties will include: Assisting with User Acceptance Testing, SharePoint, writing and editing documents, and researching and recommending processing improvement activities.
  • OCFP is responsible for overseeing the agency's consumer financial protection policy and rulemaking efforts, fair lending examination program, consumer assistance center, financial literacy and education, and interagency coordination on consumer financial protection compliance matters. Duties will include: Supporting NCUA's financial literacy and outreach initiatives through research and analysis, drafting reports and briefings, and collaborating on the creation of consumer education content.
  • The OEC is responsible for administering both the NCUA Ethics Program and the NCUA Anti-Harassment Program. Duties will include: Researching and writing draft responses, creating templates, reviewing financial disclosure forms, and creating training materials.
  • OEAC provides strategic guidance to NCUA leadership and program offices on interactions with key external stakeholders that involve relevant policy and opportunities to advance the agency's mission, vision, and strategic objectives. Duties will include: Supporting staff on legislative research, project management, and responses to legislative inquiries. Additionally, generating social media content, and assisting with website and communications efforts.
  • FinTech explores methods to enhance the virtual examination and supervision process and promotes the development and deployment of technologies and innovations that can expand financial inclusion and equitable and affordable consumer access within the credit union system. Duties will include: Assisting with research projects, collecting data, and supporting in the planning and facilitating conferences.

  • Enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Qualifications

To qualify for the NCUA Pathways Summer Intern Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be enrolled at least half-time or accepted as a degree seeking student.
  • Transcripts must show proof of current enrollment in spring 2023 courses and continuing education through either the summer or fall semesters.
  • Must submit unofficial transcripts showing current enrollment in spring 2023 courses at the time of application.
  • Current transcripts much show a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
  • If you are a student veteran, submit the required documentation as described in the Required Documents section.

You must meet the education and eligibility requirements for this position by the start date. Official transcripts must be obtained prior to start date in order to verify that education requirements have been met.

Education

CU-04: Completion of two years post-high school education (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours).

If you are graduating in the spring of 2023, you must receive acceptance into a bachelor's or post-bachelor's program by May 2023 to be eligible for the Pathways Summer Intern Program. In order to participate in the Program, proof of acceptance must be submitted prior to start date.

All education must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

SALARY: The hourly salary range shown is NCUA's National Pay Rate (NPR). Actual hourly salary will be determined upon the location of the selectee and the applicable locality pay.

This position is not eligible for health benefits and life insurance. Students are eligible to earn four hours of annual leave and four hours of sick leave per pay period.

This position is not in the bargaining unit.
