The ODSS is seeking two outstanding and motivated candidates for the positions of Health Scientist Administrators (Program Directors) within the Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) Program. The AIM-AHEAD Program seeks to increase the participation and representation of researchers and communities currently underrepresented in the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) models and to improve the capabilities of emerging technology, use of electronic health records (EHR) and other diverse data (e.g., Social Determinants of Health) to address health disparities and inequities.
AIM-AHEAD Program Director (Data and Computing Infrastructure), GS-12/13/14
The selected Program Director for this position will oversee the Infrastructure and Data Cores of the Program to ensure that the co-design of diverse data and computing infrastructure and associated data governance models advance the goals of the AIM-AHEAD Program. Duties include: identify and formulate program priorities and needs in data and computing infrastructure resources for AI/ML applications in health disparities research; participate and lead regular and ad-hoc meetings with AIM-AHEAD awardees and Other Transaction Authority staff; review milestones and deliverables of the award; foster synergies between AIM-AHEAD and other NIH programs in AI/ML and health disparities; provide regular updates to ODSS leadership and AIM-AHEAD stakeholders across NIH; and contribute to other programmatic activities within ODSS as opportunities and needs emerge.
The ideal candidate should have expertise in the data science domain, such as bioinformatics, computer or information science, cloud computing, data governance, management and sharing policies, and AI/ML. Knowledge of NIH extramural funding policies and Other Transaction Authority will be a plus. Scientific knowledge relevant to the ODSS's scientific mission will also be a plus. Organizational and communication skills and motivation to serve as a team member within the AIM-AHEAD Program and ODSS is essential.
AIM-AHEAD Program Director (Partnerships and Training), GS-12/13/14
The selected Program Director for this position will oversee the Partnership and Training Cores to promote the participation and representation of students, researchers, and communities from diverse backgrounds, which are currently underrepresented in AI/ML and health disparities research. The responsibilities include: identify and formulate program priorities and needs to support the integration of AI/ML-focused research with community engagement, and clinical research; develop training activities to achieve a diverse workforce in AI/ML; lead regular and ad-hoc meetings with AIM-AHEAD awardees and Other Transaction Authority staff; review milestones and deliverables of the award; foster synergies between AIM-AHEAD and other NIH programs in AI/ML and health disparities; provide regular updates to ODSS leadership and AIM-AHEAD stakeholders across NIH; and contribute to other programmatic activities within ODSS as opportunities and needs emerge.
The successful candidate should have expertise in a broad applied or population-based science, epidemiology, or social and behavioral science. Expertise in the areas of stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and dissemination, as well as knowledge of the ethical, legal, and social implications of AI/ML, will be preferable. Knowledge of NIH extramural funding policies and Other Transaction Authority will be a plus. Scientific knowledge relevant to the ODSS's scientific mission will be also a plus. Organizational and communication skills and motivation to serve as a team member within the AIM-AHEAD Program and ODSS is essential.
