This position is located in the Energy Markets Section of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC).
As a/n Legal Specialist, some of your typical work assignments may include:
Researching, reviewing, and analyzing information for meetings of attorneys concerning cases. Ensuring that all documents are legally correct and meets all Government or Commission requirements.
Assisting new attorneys, law clerks and interns in the orientation process of the section. This includes providing samples of incumbent's work products, particularly drafts of cases and sometimes notices advising on highly specialized problems which could develop and the importance of documentation requirements.
Demonstrating familiarity with the eLibrary, ATMS and Virtual Agenda databases, and inputting data into, and overseeing the input of data into, the ATMS and Virtual Agenda databases, in particular. Must be thoroughly conversant about the Commission's practices and procedures regarding pending proceedings, the assignment of staff, and the scheduling of orders.
Planning, organizing and coordinating work to be accomplished, both within OGC and with other offices.
Time-in-grade requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement unless you are (1) eligible for a special hiring authority OR (2) reinstatement eligible.

You can qualify based on your education, OR one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level, OR have a combination of education and experience. Specialized experience is defined as: Specialized experience is defined as: Experience with the Commission's ATMS, eLibrary, Virtual Agenda databases and Word/Excel, and with the Commission's processes for assigning, scheduling, and filing draft orders; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
