Specialized experience is defined as experience in IT utilizing standard personal computer (PC) software and operating systems, and assisting end users with the standard Microsoft applications.

2) BY EDUCATION: Possession of a Bachelor's degree or one year of graduate-level education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or other related field, AND eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provisions.

3) BY COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess a combination of both education and specialized experience described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
To qualify at the CG-09 level, you must meet one of the following:
1) BY EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 07 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience with Information Technology (IT) researching and evaluating personal computer (PC) software and operating systems, assisting end users with standard Microsoft Applications and troubleshooting hardware and software configuration problems.

2) BY EDUCATION: Applicant must possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL. B, or J.D., if related) or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, technology management, or other related field.

3) BY COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess a COMBINATION of graduate level education beyond the 1st full year of graduate education, and specialized experience as described above, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position
NOTE: Prior to conversion to an Information Technology Specialist (2210 series), applicants must either have a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks, or have IT-related experience. IT-related experience must demonstrate each of the four competencies listed below with a minimum of 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower GS/CG level or equivalent:

After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC’s needs, the interns may be non-competitively converted to an Information Technology Specialist CG-2210-7, 9, or 11 position in the competitive service with promotion potential to the CG-13 level. To be eligible for conversion, interns must meet the performance requirements, completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program, the requirements of the FDIC Pathways Participant Agreement and meet the OPM requirements for the Information Technology Specialist (2210 series) Qualification Standards. However, service in the FDIC Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.
