Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list
A HELICOPTER FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, GS-2181-13, Serves as rotary wing Instructor Pilot (IP). Trains and evaluates aviators on basic and advanced flight techniques. This includes the procedures to use in emergencies and malfunctions over rough terrain, e.g., hills and forests both day and night. Training includes instruction and evaluation for operating unique electronics equipment, such as precision, non-precision, and GPS route navigation and approaches. Conducts initial standardization flight evaluations for new air crew members and annual evaluations for assigned and attached pilots, including local aircraft transitions including refresher training. Serves as pilot-in-command while operating single and/or multi-engine rotary wing aircraft to perform airlift support for DOD personnel, emergency medical evacuations, aerial fire suppression support, paradrops, rescue, and Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) operations. May be required to transport classified, chemical or other hazardous cargo. May be required to perform extended flights to and from a wide variety of points, with responsibility for safely transporting passengers and/or classified, chemical, or other hazardous cargo. Pilot will possess competency on all aviation matters that will encompass safety as the number one priority, demonstrate a consistent mature judgment and maintain a high degree of pilot proficiency for conducting flight missions under visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR). Performs preflight weather analysis, route and altitude selections, alternate airport selection, fuel, cargo and passenger load computations, selection of refueling stops, preflight inspections, flight plan filing, and firing ranges route planning/coordination. Incorporates precision, non-precision, and GPS route navigation and instrument approaches in all mission planning and must be knowledgeable in all aspects of their operations.
Performs one or more of the following major functional duties:
- Serves as rotary wing Instrument Flight Examiner
- Serves as rotary and/or fixed wing Standardization Instructor Pilot
- Serves as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot and/or Functional Check Pilot
- Serves as Aviation Safety Officer
- Serves are Maintenance Test Pilot
- Serves as Aviation Mission Survivability Officer
Preforms other duties as assigned.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
EDUCATION: An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is optimum. Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
REMARKS: No PCS available. Position will not be filled until current incumbent vacates. Sensitivity Level 2. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. - Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Area 2: Current Minnesota National Guard Title 32 Technicians who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired at a sister component that is identified on the Position Vacancy Announcement (PVA), including onboard Title 5 employees that are also current members of MNNG; i.e. Army MNNG to Air MNNG, Air MNNG to Army MNNG.
Area 3: All Minnesota National Guard members currently assigned to the MNANG or to the MNARNG applying for a position within the component in which they are currently assigned. i.e. temporary technician or Traditional Guardsman.
Area 4: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the Minnesota National Guard, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state's National Guard.
Area 5: All individuals able to and willing to become members of the Minnesota National Guard including prior service not currently assigned to a military component and non-prior service US civilians.
Evaluation Factors: Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of appropriate education, experience, training, self-development activities, and special awards. Candidates are considered on the basis of available information on their current application and supporting information that has been provided to this office. To ensure full consideration, applicants are urged to submit information about their training, self-development, outside experience, activities and awards. National Guard military (Part-time) service is considered as full-time experience when evaluated against the qualification requirements for a technician position. The applicant is credited with actual number of months the member has been in the National Guard if the experience is related.
