U.S. Citizens. Area 1 - Open to current, permanent technicians of the Michigan National Guard.
This position is located in the Joint Force Headquarters-State, Operations Directorate (J-3), Army National Guard (ARNG) Training Center, Range Operations. The purpose of the position is to repair, install, operate, and maintain a variety of Army Standard Integrated Target Systems, such as Armor Moving Target Carriers (AMTC), Infantry Moving Target Carrier Systems (IMTS), Target Holding Mechanism Tank Gunnery (THMTG) and Enhanced Remote Target Systems (ERETS). Operates computer-controlled target system consoles and develops scenarios for operation. Operates and performs maintenance on power generating and portable power source equipment. Arms, detonates, and/or disarms pyrotechnics and demolition devices. Fabricates and/or repairs metal, wood and cardboard targets. Operates and maintains vehicles assigned to the shop.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(1) Inspects and tests Army Standard Integrated Target systems, using wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals and test equipment (i.e., voltmeters, multiplexers, miniature consoles and digital multi-meters).
(2) Isolates faulty components and determines extent of repair or replacement required to restore power, signal or correct mechanical operation.
(3) Installs thermal target equipment to include, but not be limited to, AC or DC powered thermal heating panels.
(4) Develops training scenarios for down range target systems, using the computer controlled integrated target systems control panel.
(5) Operates and performs operational and organizational maintenance on gasoline and/or diesel powered generating systems and various portable power sources used in support of range control and target systems.
(6) Prepares demolitions in conjunction with radio and/or computer controlled target system mechanisms.
(7) Operates and maintains wheeled vehicles assigned to the shop.
(8) Operates and maintains equipment used for such purposes as berm repair and maintenance, grass cutting, snow removal, or otherwise maintaining the range area in order to keep ranges operational to the maximum extent possible on a year round basis.
(9) Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use and maintain electronic and electrical equipment, components, and ability to perform repairs and testing. Candidates must have knowledge of standard troubleshooting techniques in order to troubleshoot for common recurring kinds of defects.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training demonstrating knowledge of electronics, test equipment, measuring devices, and equipment used to assemble, disassemble, clean, replace, or adjust target systems and control panels. Candidates must be proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, specifications, and wiring diagrams to aid in minor troubleshooting and repairs of defected equipment
