The Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs is the principal academic and policy adviser to the CIC Chancellor and VP-AA/Provost on all matters pertaining to the CIC curriculum, accreditation, and faculty. The dean provides the leadership, creativity, and expertise necessary to accomplish University-wide and college level: strategic and operational academic program planning and assessment; development and documentation of required academic policies, guidance, and processes; academic program oversight; academic innovation; and advancing excellence in research, teaching, and service. The dean is directly responsible for the recruitment, retention, evaluation, promotion, and development of college faculty.
The Dean, in collaboration with the CIC Chancellor, is responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of the CIC strategic plan and provides leadership in creating a college environment that is supportive to faculty and students. The dean ensures a comprehensive oversight and assessment program to deliver an innovative, high quality, graduate-level academic program. The dean will be responsible for the successful retention, growth, and graduation of students.
The Dean leads a rigorous process of planning and assessing the curriculum to ensure: it remains relevant to the national security environment; it is in compliance with Officer Professional Military Education Policy (OPMEP) requirements in CJCSI 1801.01, as well as the Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation requirements; the curriculum appropriately reflects the mission of College; and is pedagogically sound.
The Dean teaches as needed, to maintain contact with college courses, classrooms, and students, and to support delivery of the college curriculum. Teaching is secondary to leadership and academic oversight responsibilities. The dean will maintain currency, expertise, and professional stature in the field through research and publication of scholarly work. The dean actively participates in University and CIC engagement efforts and supports robust interdisciplinary and collaborative partnerships across NDU, and with external partners.
The Dean works in a collegial and energetic fashion with the other college deans. The dean fosters institutional collaboration and integration in conjunction with CIC's Dean of Administration, Dean of Students, and other functional Directorate Heads.
The Dean will be a steadfast leader and advocate for NDU and college initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Education Requirement: Ph.D. or other terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent) related to the duties of this position, with a focus on national security or higher education academic administration.

The National Defense University (NDU) educates joint warfighters and other national security leaders in critical thinking and the creative application of military power to inform national strategy and globally integrated operations, under conditions of disruptive change, in order to prevail in war, peace and competition. NDU is comprised of five primary educational institutions and national security policy agencies which include: National War College (NWC), Dwight Eisenhower School (ES), Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC), College of International Security Affairs (CISA), and the College of Information and Cyberspace (CIC). The College of Information and Cyberspace (CIC) is one of five colleges at NDU.
