Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:
- Furnish guidance on the development and improvement of programming/budgeting methods and assumptions of Defense activities so as to ensure the development of programs and budgets are on an objective basis and are correlated with the overall strategic goals and mission of the DoD.
- Formulate and recommend long-range budgetary requirements, based on established policies and concepts; for each fiscal year, formulate specific policies and basic assumptions directly applicable to the compilation and presentation of budgetary requests for all phases of assigned responsibilities to include contingency operations.
- Review and, as appropriate, raise Comptroller-related issues on Components' Program Objective Memoranda for consideration in the development of applicable program decision memoranda.
- Maintain direct contact with responsible officials of other Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) organizations to include General Counsel; the Components and their key budget and Comptroller officers and security assistance/cooperation experts; the Office of Management and Budget (OMB); other Federal agencies; and congressional staff of applicable oversight committees to ensure constant familiarity of assigned programs.
- Responsible for maintaining a general familiarity of activities for other major areas for which the incumbent does not have primary responsibility in order to substitute as necessary for the employee assigned that area of responsibility.
