The Supervisory Collections Specialist supervises a staff that acquires primary sources – mainly manuscript collections – but also born digital records and audiovisual materials, as gifts. In this position, you will:
1. Advise and direct staff in the process of acquiring new archival collections, appraise the research value of collections, negotiate with donors concerning the terms and conditions of gifts, complete legal agreements, accession new acquisitions, weed out-of-scope materials, and track collecting contacts.
2. Perform the administrative and human resource management functions related to staff supervised. Provide supervision, guidance, review, evaluation, and training.
3. Develop and follow an approved collecting plan in consultation with the Director and in keeping with the Archives’ Collections Stewardship Plan. Carry out the play and manage national collecting initiatives.
4. Plan and implement public programs for AAA and in coordination with other institutions and organizations.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as experience leading a team tasked with collections development including experience in the solicitation, acquisition, description, and scholarly appraisal of archival collections.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
