This is a bargaining unit position. This position is represented by AFGE. Please note that as provided for in the AFGE/VA Master Agreement the FIRST area of consideration for this position will be permanent employees of the local facility in which this position is being filled, the SECOND area of consideration will be employees at other VA facilities, and the THIRD area of consideration will be all other eligibles.
Incumbent performs clerical duties in support of general office administration including the preparation of interment records and recurring written reports, the upgrading of administrative forms and hand-outs for public distribution, the processing of all outgoing mail and the maintenance of the administrative filing system. Composes general correspondence and special forms, reports, burial register, grave locator records of interments, letters to next-of-kin when monuments are set as well as letters and memoranda for the Director's signature.
As directed, the incumbent is responsible for gathering, consolidating, and filing the budgetary data for the annual budget proposal for the Administrative Officer (AO). Researches past expenditures and budgets for expected reporting findings to the AO. Projects personnel costs and makes continuing adjustments as changes occur.
The incumbent performs cemetery representative duties by completing associated paperwork, performing committal services, ordering headstones/markers/niche plates, overseeing military honors, and performing other ceremonies as needed.
Performs public outreach as needed.
This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 12 months.
Temporary appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration for one year or less. Should the need warrant, temporary appointments may be extended without further competition up to a maximum of one additional year (for a total of two years, or 24 months within the preceding three year or 36 months' period). The appointment to a temporary position does not confer eligibility for promotion, reassignment, or transfer to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
Work schedule: Required to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. May include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day and Veteran's Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.
