MPD is responsible for the oversight of registered derivatives market participants, including swap dealers, major swap participants, futures commission merchants, introducing brokers, commodity pool operators, commodity trading advisors, floor brokers, and retail foreign exchange dealers, and futures self-regulatory organizations (SROs). The Division’s primary mission is to assure that registered market participants and SROs are in compliance with the Commodity Exchange Act and Commission regulations.
The Division consists of four branches: Chief Counsel (CC); Registration and Compliance (R&C); Managed Funds & Financial Requirements (MFFR); and Examinations. A successful candidate may be selected to join either the CC or MFFR Branch. MPD’s Chief Counsel serves as the legal expert to the Director on all matters regarding the CEA and the Commission’s regulations. The MFFR Branch is responsible for the oversight of registered market participants’ compliance with the Commission’s financial requirements. The successful candidate will assist with activities associated with the responsibilities of the Branch to which they are selected. Specific duties may include:
The selected candidate may also be assigned to work as a team lead or team member on a project with other Division staff members, or with members of other Commission divisions or offices.

CT-13: Candidates with a law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and bar membership and 3 years of relevant legal experience after completion of law school.
CT-14: Candidates with a law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and bar membership and 4 years of relevant legal experience after completion of law school.
Relevant experience is defined as an attorney, law clerk, or other legal experience which was obtained subsequent to graduation from law school. At least one year of this experience must have been at a level of responsibility and difficulty equivalent to at least the GS/CT-12/13 level in the Federal Service.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated skill in research and analysis of sophisticated legal and factual issues, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.
General knowledge of commodities or related law and regulations, financial markets, corporate law, and general administrative law.
Possession and application of negotiating, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Additional accounting or finance specific degree and/or Certified Public Accountant license preferred for selection to the MFFR Branch.
Education: Successful completion of a full course of study (JD) in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
