The incumbent will be assigned to the Small Grains Fungal Pathology Laboratory in West Lafayette, Indiana. The long-term goal of the Small Grains Fungal Pathology Laboratory is to increase the levels of resistance to fungal pathogens of wheat and other grain crops. The incumbent will explore the possibility to employ decoy engineering as a means to develop novel disease resistance in grain crops.

This position requires a recent Ph.D in Plant Pathology or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. This position requires a professional knowledge of plant molecular biology, molecular plant-microbe interactions and genetic approaches for analyzing plant disease resistance. Extensive knowledge of plant genetics, molecular plant pathology, and plant disease resistance proteins is essential.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
