Analyzes, evaluates, and coordinates matters involving cultural resources programs and the natural and social sciences associated with Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
Participates in and may lead development of cultural resources plans and projects with Federal, State, and local agencies and private organizations on matters pertaining to the need for resource planning and protection of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
Recommends policy or guideline changes based on issues identified during the course of the planning projects.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND DOI SECRETARY STANDARDS:
Historian GS-0170: must possess a graduate degree in History, American History, Public History or a closely related field of study. PLUS a minimum of two (2) years of full-time professional experience applying the theories, methods, and practices of History that enables professional judgments to be made about the identification, evaluation, documentation, registration, or treatment of historic properties in the United States and its Territories; AND products and activities that demonstrate the successful application of acquired proficiencies in the discipline to the practice of historic preservation (see Documenting Professional Experience for Historians);

B. Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail (the Trail) was established by Congress in 1978 as a component of the National Trails System. The National Park Service administers the Trail in partnership with many Federal, State and local agencies, private organizations, and private landowners. This site commemorates the heroic expedition of the Corps of Discovery, led by Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Today the Trail follows that route as closely as possible and is approximately 4,600 miles long. The office is located near the Old Market District in downtown Omaha. Housing in the Omaha metropolitan area, which includes Council Bluffs, Iowa, is plentiful and moderately priced for rental or purchase. Public, private and parochial education opportunities abound. Colleges, universities, technical and business schools, hospitals, churches, and most other amenities are readily available. The mean temperature is 50 degrees, with 87 degrees being the average summer high and 16 degrees the average winter low. Various recreational opportunities are abundant in the area.
