The United States Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina is looking for experienced attorneys to represent the interests of the United States. Working with other Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and federal law enforcement partners, this AUSA will be responsible for the prosecution of civil cases on behalf of the United States. Serving to make society safer, to protect those who are preyed upon, and to ensure the fair and equitable administration of justice makes being an AUSA an extremely rewarding and exciting career.

This position's primary responsibility will be affirmative litigation of cases involving general fraud, health care fraud, violations of the False Claims Act, and violations of the Controlled Substances Act. The position may also include defensive litigation in the areas of medical malpractice, employment discrimination, immigration, Administrative Procedures Act, prisoner, personal injury tort, and other general defensive litigation.
Attorneys in the Civil Division are responsible for handling all aspects of cases and investigations, including researching the appropriate program requirements and the materiality of the allegations of fraud, gathering evidence, taking testimony, writing briefs, participating in negotiations, and appearing in court at hearings and trials.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a
favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Congress generally prohibits agencies from employing non-citizens within the United States, except for a few narrow
exceptions as set forth in the annual Appropriations Act (see, https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-ingovernment/
