About Application Status

Application Statuses in your USAJOBS account are a direct reflection of an Agency staff personnel input and action. USAJOBS does not have any control over the content or lack of a notification or application status. To view applications that you have hidden:

  1. Log into your USAJOBS account.

Performing a Job Search

Using USAJOBS to perform a job search is very easy.

You can search for jobs in two ways:

  • Search jobs by keyword and/or location on the home page
  • Use Advanced Search to select multiple search criteria

Keyword Search Tips

When searching by keywords, please keep the following in mind:

The keyword function searches for all terms in one job. If you list multiple words you will only see Job Opportunity Announcements which include all of the words you selected. You will not see any Job Opportunity Announcements that only have one or two of the words you selected. To maximize the number of jobs returned during your search, try limiting your search to only one keyword.

About Advanced Search

On the Advanced Search page, you are able to select search criteria from several different refining fields, such as Keywords, Salary or Pay Grade, and Location. Searches can be broadened or narrowed by using the refiners.

Advanced Search Tips

Advanced Search allows you to tailor search results by all words, exact phrase, or one or more words. In addition, Advanced Search permits the exclusion of unwanted words.

All of these words - The search will produce all records that contain every word in this search field regardless of the order in which they appear in the record. For example, a search on Management and Program Analyst will yield instances of Management and Program Analyst as well as management and program analysis. We’re not using synonyms here so it would find any references of Management and Program both appearing in the JOA but not necessarily side by side.

About Saved Search

Saved Searches help you look for Job Opportunity Announcements in your area of interest. The saved searches will automatically search for jobs based on your selected criteria, and then email you when there are new jobs entered into the database that meet your specifications (they will not email you jobs that were previously posted). You may create and save up to 10 Saved Searches. The USAJOBS saved search creation, editing, deletion, and viewing functions are all located within your USAJOBS account.

Saved/Missing Job Posts

If you have a job saved in your account and it is no longer there, the agency may have removed the posting, therefore the job will not be on your saved jobs list anymore. A job will also be removed from your saved jobs list once you apply, and you can now view the job from the Application Status page.

The Agency controls a job posting’s start and close date, determining when and how long the posting remains visible and/or active. The closing time for jobs is 11:59PM Eastern Time; however, an agency may choose to expire a job before its closing date. An expired job will also be removed from the search results.
