This position is located in the Headquarters of the United States Park Police (USPP), in the Business Operations Division, National Park Service. The incumbent serves as the principal staff advisor to the United States Park Police management officials on program and budget matters. They also provide effective financial management services and fiscal accountability to all force elements in matters of procurement, contracting, travel, payroll, government credit cards and budget execution.

The major duties of the Financial Operations Officer position include, but are not limited to, the following:
