    This position is located in the Compensation and Benefits Branch, Office of Human Resources (OHR), and Smithsonian Institution (SI). The Compensation Benefits Branch is responsible for providing advice and counseling services on a variety of benefit plans within SI’s Employee Benefits Program.

    As Human Resources Specialist (Benefits), you will demonstrates through project coordination, training and administrative services a thorough understanding of the rules, regulations, and procedures related to the following:

    • Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS); the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS); phased and disability retirement, nonfederal retirement plans, military and civilian deposits and redeposits; Thrift Savings Plan (TSP); FERCCA, reemployed annuitants, life and long term disability insurance; Social Security, FECA (workers compensation), health and welfare and transit benefit plans.

    • Provide thorough and in-depth understanding of all aspects of the Federal employee’s retirement programs to include FERCCA, reemployed annuitants, CSRS, CSRS offset, all FERS categories, TSP, disability retirement, Medicare and Social Security to SI Federal employees.
    • Serve as subject matter expert in all aspects of federal benefits programs and is knowledgeable regarding non-federal benefits programs and FECA (Federal Employees Compensation Program).
