EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In this position, you will maintain and manage a workload of environmental policy compliance requirements and projects. Typical assignments include:
- Gathering data to identify and evaluate biologically, historic and/or socio-economically sensitive areas, wetlands, critical habitat, and other natural or cultural resources
- Directing, administering, monitoring, and maintaining appropriate documentation to ensure projects are in compliance with applicable environmental laws, executive orders and/or regulations
- Coordinating with counterparts in FEMA partner agencies in the areas of environmental compliance and preservation of historic and cultural resources
- Identifying and integrating significant internal and external programs, policies, procedures, practices and systems that may affect the agency in the establishment, coordination, oversight, and execution of a variety of environmental compliance programs.
Promotion Potential: Positions filled under Stafford Act regulations generally do not have documented promotion potential; however, dependent on an employee’s ability to perform higher level duties, the continuing need for an employee to perform work associated with a higher level position, and administrative recommendation and approval, promotions may be earned by CORE employees.
76% or greater - Employees hired for these positions are hired to work on temporary duty assignments in deployed positions anywhere that FEMA responds to a disaster declaration. FEMA has established 320 days per year as the targeted number of days of disaster duty assignments. Employees hired for these positions are assigned to duty stations at their home address for pay purposes and for the location of their non-deployed work assignments, to include on-boarding related work assignments.
