    This position is located in the Office of External Affairs at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM). Incumbent is responsible for conceiving, executing, and implementing interpretive public programs from initial proposal through program close-out. Programs are offered in conjunction with the permanent collections, temporary exhibitions, and scholarly activities of the museum and its Renwick Gallery. The incumbent reports directly to the Manager of Public Programs.

    As Public Programs Coordinator, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

    • Conceives and prepares proposals for a variety of programs and audiences including lectures,
      artists’ talks and demonstrations, family days, tours, film series and other events. Proposals
      include roster of possible participants for a given program, biographical data and abstracts of
      previous lectures and other writings, target audience and description of previous program
      participation as appropriate.
    • Participates in the conceptualization and preparation of grant proposals which persuasively
      convey the scope and purpose of the public programs for which funding is sought. 
    • Plans and implements arrangements for funded programs including physical space, staffing,
      contractors and materials required. 
    • Works with other SAAM staff and offices to gather and prepare text, visual and digital assets
      needed for projects.
    • Oversees on-site program logistics, introduces programs and participants and resolves problems
      that may arise.
