EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

In this role, you will serve as the Response Division Director and member of the leadership team for FEMA Region IX, providing, direction, guidance and technical assistance on disaster planning, operations, logistics, and implementing FEMA Disaster Operations programs, in coordination with Federal, state, Tribal, Territorial, and local partners. Typical assignments include:

    • Supporting the Regional Administrator in exercising authority for leading coordinated and effective disaster operations in response to all-hazards and serving as the Region's authority on the interpretation and application of FEMA's policies for Disaster Operations related functions.
    • Providing exceptional leadership for all Response Division employees, empowering subordinate Branch Chiefs to implement programs, while caring for the well-being and morale of the Division’s workforce.
    • Developing, tracking, and adjusting Response Division strategic priorities, goals, and objectives through annual and multi-year planning initiatives, and contributing to the advancement of Region 9 positions in national-level response policy discussions.
    • Overseeing the multi-year deliberate planning process for all Regional disaster plans in collaboration with partners and stakeholders, including maturing the ability to better operationalize plans, associated task forces, and playbooks, both for CONUS and OCONUS response requirements.
    • Ensuring the Region's logistical requirements are met in coordination with  partners, including pre-positioned disaster supplies and immediate response resources.
    • Monitoring, altering, and advising the Regional Administrator, FEMA Headquarters, and other partners on potential emerging threats, developments, and no notice disasters, which could require a change to the Region’s response posture.
