This is an Internship position under FAA's Gateways Program.
The student in this position will be responsible for assisting more experienced employees in the research and development of software useful for establishing and maintaining the efficient, productive, and cost-effective operation of the National Airspace System (NAS). He/she performs a mixture of routine and somewhat complex tasks under the general direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or other more experienced employee.
Trainees are fully immersed in teams working on mission-critical projects while also engaging in meaningful learning and development opportunities. The position offers experience, exposure to leaders within mission support, as well as exposure to networking opportunities and professional skills development. Receives detailed instructions from a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee. He/she possesses knowledge of basic administrative program management, and communication skills sufficient to engage in program management, analysis and control for various groups within mission support.
Assists manager and other employees in the day-to-day operations, which includes: performing basic research, preparing and conducting analysis for identifying program requirements and problems; gathering information for the development of presentations to highlight key points; consolidating various data sources into a cohesive set of data; developing a process for importing, storing and computing information using MS Office applications; gathering user requirements and derive a solution to meet the mission's needs.
Establish policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments, with little or no room for discretion. The following tasks may also be part of the process improvement/documentation efforts, for which the student will assist and support the manager, team lead or more experience employee: gathering information for development of budget projections for organizational support and capabilities for specific projects and programs; gathering and cataloging program requirements to identify consolidation and improvement opportunities; organizing processes in a logical and methodical manner; documenting as-is processes and creating process maps; drafting to-be processes and maps. The work is reviewed regularly during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and all aspects of quality.
The trainee regularly coordinates with a manager and/or other more experienced employee to plan time, prioritize, assignments, and use assigned resources to accomplish tasks. Participates in cross-organizational Intern development and experience activities. Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee for guidance.
Contacts are primarily internal to one organizational unit, with a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee to share basic information and to receive guidance. In some areas, may have limited contacts with external customers. The student may be required to communicate information to various audiences through the use of reports and notes.
Work activities typically support the work of other employees and contribute to the activities of the organizational unit.
