EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

In this position, you will serve as a Disaster Field Coordinator supporting Region Three with recovery operations in active Joint Field Office operations in Charleston, WV.

    Typical assignments include:

    • Serving as Lead Field Coordinator between Federal, State, local and FEMA personnel in partnership with the designated Federal and State Coordinating Officers.
    • Leading field teams in the delivery of FEMA’s Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs within Region III joint field offices.
    • Identifying and providing guidance in the resolution of Recovery grant programmatic issues.
    • Managing media, congressional, and other external relations to communicate the availability of assistance to external audiences.
    • Coordinating with Region III senior leadership and designated Federal Coordinating Officer on the resolution of complex program delivery issues.
    • Facilitating high-profile, potentially contentious meetings to explain written determinations.
    • Maintaining accountability for safety of personnel and property assigned to support the disaster operation.
    • Maintaining financial oversight to ensure the operation is efficient and effective.
    • Identifying  staffing and facility requirements and ensuring assigned joint field offices and branch offices are adequately staffed to support operational needs.

Promotion Potential: Positions filled under Stafford Act regulations generally do not have documented promotion potential; however, dependent on an employee’s ability to perform higher level duties, the continuing need for an employee to perform work associated with a higher level position, and administrative recommendation and approval, promotions may be earned by CORE employees.
