The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for an exciting full-time permanent position within the Division of Dam Safety and Inspections of the Office of Energy Projects. The position is available in our Headquarters in Washington DC, New York office, San Francisco office, or Portland office. The incumbent will work as an IT Specialist (Cyber Security) and must have knowledge of a wide range of security policy requirements, concepts, principles, and practices to independently review, analyze, and resolve difficult and complex security problems in order to provide oversight of and make recommendations for improvement of cyber protection of critical infrastructure facilities for hydroelectric projects.
The mission of the Office of Energy Projects is to facilitate potential benefits to the nation through the review of natural gas and hydropower infrastructure proposals and minimize risks to the public associated with FERC jurisdictional energy infrastructure. Major duties include:
- Serves as a technical expert, coach, and team leader for analysis and resolution of cyber security issues for the Commission's dam safety program. Tracks trending vulnerabilities and provides assessment and appropriate mitigation strategies, as it relates to industrial control systems within jurisdictional assets.
- Reviews the FERC Security Program’s guidance for Hydropower Projects and develops revisions and updates, as appropriate. Memoranda and compliance driven correspondence will be developed following on-site and virtual inspections.
- Performs security inspections to ensure compliance with FERC's Security Program (and evolving best practices) and debriefs findings and recommendations to internal and external parties. Participates as an evaluator during security exercises. Delivers presentations on behalf of the Security Branch, inside and outside of the agency.
