    The incumbent serves as Research Leader for the Crop Bioprotection Research Unit in the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research. The incumbent develops and maintains an internationally recognized research program and leads a diverse group of scientists and support staff in research addressing national needs for new biological control agents, processes, and methods.

    • Conducts and leads research to identify, develop, and enable commercial production of bioactive metabolites and biological controls to support integrated pest management, crop health, and vector control programs.
    • Expands fundamental knowledge of biological interactions to enhance the production, formulation, and application of beneficial biological products for sustainable management of crop pests, plant pathogens, and animal disease vectors.
    • Supervisory duties include:
    • - Providing vision, establishing, and maintaining an advisory stakeholder base and developing research programs to address stakeholder priorities;
    • - Exercising leadership and supervising personnel assigned to the unit;
    • - Maximizing the creativity and productivity of the unit;
    • - Hiring personnel and managing the human, fiscal, and physical resources assigned to the unit;
    • - Serving as the Unit fundholder;
    • - Providing technical information and conducting consultation both internal and external to Agricultural Research Service; and
    • - Ensuring the proper interpretation and reporting of scientific research results.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Local, national, and international travel is required to attend workshops, scientific conferences, and training.
