    There are two Public Affairs Specialist, GS-1035-07/09 positions available at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office, Region 8 in Sacramento, CA. One position is with the Sacramento Fish and Wildlife Office and the other is with the Regional Office's External Affairs team.

    As a Public Affairs Specialist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

    • Conducts research, including interviews of subject matter experts, for stories, online content, and other information products as required.
    • Writes news releases, bulletins, feature stories, video scripts, fact sheets, briefing papers, social media posts and other communications materials for public release.
    • Works with a wide range of partner agencies and organizations to support local, regional and national conservation goals through coordinated communications and community engagement strategies.
    • Works cooperatively with regional public affairs staff on coordinated public and digital communications campaigns in support of local, regional or national communications objectives.
    • Prepares a coordinated response to inquiries about Service activities and decisions to members of the news media.
    • Works with regional public affairs staff to develop and implement internal communications strategies to advance priority conservation work and provide support to agency experts serving as spokespeople.
    Promotion Potential: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed represent the major duties performed at the GS-9 level, and you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-11.
