    This position is organizationally aligned under the Office of the Director at the VA Illiana Health Care System Danville, IL. The primary purpose of the position is to function as the facility Outreach Specialist responsible for developing, managing, analyzing, and executing the VAIHCS outreach program.

    Major duties include but are not limited to:

    • Provides technical and administrative supervision
    • Providing oversight of outreach activities as well as developing and producing promotional and exhibited materials that reflect VAIHCS in an accurate and professional manner that furthers the mission, goals and objectives
    • Set priorities and establish schedules, evaluates performance, recommends promotions and awards
    • Responsible for developing, managing, analyzing, and executing the outreach program
    • Establishes outreach services in geographical area
    • Plans the development and implementation of outreach programs and activities across the VAIHCS catchment area
    • Utilizes a variety of reporting tools to analyze cause and effect in outreach growth and market penetration
    • Collaborates closely with a variety of clinical and nonclinical service lines and program staff to maximize the impact, efficiency and effectiveness of their outreach activities, requests or requirements while capitalizing on synergistic opportunities
    • Works closely with and fosters meaningful working relationships with other government, non-government, non-profit and for-profit organizations to advance the mission of VA, VAIHCS and to meet the objectives of this position
    • Identifying, creating, promoting and/or supporting community events, speaking opportunities, and Veteran stand downs and such as well as coordinating for staff support/participation
    • Develops and distributes outreach materials to include brochures, fact sheets, web content, and other targeted information
    • Works with local and regional media including television, radio, and print media, to alert newly returning service members and their families to Veteran services and activities
    • Provides training and information to VA staff, other federal agencies, and community agencies regarding both Veteran services and the combat/GWOT experience
    • Develops and maintains working relationships with a network of service provision agencies and individuals in all areas relevant to transitioning combat service members and their families
    • Organizes and participates in a myriad of community activities
    • Maintains a liaison with veteran service organizations, community groups, and others whose interest is in helping and protecting veterans and their families
    • Serves as an "advocate" for clients throughout the facility
    • Prepares and maintains client records/administrative records and reports in accordance with program guidelines and policies
    • Performs work related to public affairs communication activities such as responding to media inquiries, generating media interest, and coordinating agency information
    • Writes news releases, feature stories, extended captions, speeches, social media and web posts/stories, prepares information packets, media kits, fact sheets, and produces various graphic materials such as newsletters, flyers, and brochures
    Incumbent will service a 1 year Supervisory Probationary period.
