    Responsibilities

    The primary purpose of this position is to keep local and district elected officials informed on Fifth District and Coast Guard matters. Additionally, this position provides advice and recommendations to commanders, staff officers and other collateral-duty governmental affairs officers assigned throughout the district.

    Typical work assignments include:

    • Serving as the first point of contact on governmental, inter-agency, tribal and international affairs issues

    • Providing guidance, coordination and facilitation of requested site visits to achieve external affairs program goals.

    • Assisting the Fifth District External Affairs Division Officer by maintaining consistant contact via email or attending monthly meetings between the Coast Guard Congressional Affairs Office and Congressional staffers, senior community leaders of organizations who contribute to and support the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Foundation, and other non-profit organizations that support Coast Guard members and families within the Fifth District.

    • Assisting the District Public Affairs Officer with developing guest list and products to support Coast Guard City recognition, Cutter commissioning and decommissioning events, Changes of Command and recognition ceremonies.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - This position requires occasional CONUS and International travel.
