    Summary

    The Bureau of Labor Statistics measures labor market activity, working conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to support public and private decision making.

    This position is located in the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Office of Field Operations, Branch of Economic Analysis and Information (EA&I).

    Responsibilities

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • The incumbent serves as the Branch Chief of Economic Analysis and Information (EA&I).

    • Serves as the senior economist on the immediate staff of the Regional Commissioner and provides advice and counsel to the Regional Commissioner on a variety of economic and policy issues.

    • Analyzes and interprets data from subordinate staff members and from major Bureau programs for release and publications. These programs include consumer and producer price indexes, import and export price indexes, employment and unemployment statistics, wage and compensation programs, economic growth and projections, productivity, and occupational safety and health statistics.

    • Provides consultative services on the interpretation of Bureau data and methodology to mass media, businesses, labor organizations, state and local governments, academia and the general public.

    • Supports voluntary cooperation to field economists by developing and strengthening relationships with respondents by way of outreach, such a presentations, and the preparation of marketing materials.

    • Prepares or supervises the preparation of news releases and other materials suitable for the mass media. Prepares reports on regional labor market conditions.

    • The incumbent also manages the work of the EA&I Branch and supervises at least three full-time employees.

    • Performs other duties as assigned

    25% or less - To attend training, meetings, and represent BLS at public Outreach events.
