    Summary

    The New Mexico VA Health Care System is seeing Registered Nurses for the Operating Room to join the team! The perioperative nurse specializes in the peri-operative care intraoperatively and provides nursing care to the surgical patient. Responsible to promote safe care for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures using evidence based practice as outlined by AORN.

    Responsibilities

    Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on surgical procedure. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the peri-operative continuum of care. Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences when caring for the patient in the surgical theatre. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines, and in collaboration with AORN guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary surgical team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives, AORN guidelines, as well as customer service programs.

    Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday; 6:30am-5:00pm (10 hour shifts)
