The National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (NCPTSD) is a Congressionally mandated center of excellence within the Department of Veterans Affairs responsible for providing research, education, and training in the science, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and stress-related disorders. The NCPTSD is a collaborative consortium of seven divisions located in VA Medical Centers throughout the country that advances scientific understanding of PTSD and provides scientific input to policymakers and program managers throughout the Veterans Health Administration. The Dissemination and Training (D&T) Division at NCPTSD is located in Menlo Park, California in the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The NCPTSD D&T reports to the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention and the Executive Division located in White River Junction, VT. The D&T Division also administers special projects for VA Central Office, including the Prolonged Exposure National Training Program, dissemination of WebSTAIR for rural veterans, and members of the Military Sexual Trauma Support Team. The D&T Division also manages a VA Advanced Fellowship in Mental Health Treatment and Research.
The mission of D&T involves providing PTSD-related training/instructional programming; developing, disseminating, and evaluating educational products and services that promote the use of best practices for PTSD; and conducting research that informs the assessment, treatment, and delivery of services for PTSD. Areas of special focus in the Division include implementation science, mobile and web-based interventions, promotion of evidence-based treatments, training methodologies, and research on improving access to and quality of VA care for PTSD and military sexual trauma. The D&T Division serves healthcare providers, mental health clinicians, and administrative staff located within the entire VA system (e.g., VACO, VISN, Healthcare System levels); as appropriate, the Division also provides education-related services to Department of Defense and other federal, state, and non-governmental public health-related organizations that address PTSD and other trauma-related problems.
The incumbent serves as the Deputy Director of the NCPTSD and reports to the Director, who has full programmatic authority for all professional, management, and administrative aspects of the Division. The Deputy Director oversees and directs NCPTSD-related research projects, educational programs, strategic planning, and other national programs such as the VA Prolonged Exposure Training Program.
