    Responsibilities

    The incumbent will perform environmental compliance duties related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of hydropower facilities under the Commission's jurisdiction. In doing so, the incumbent will determine the adequacy of the data supplied, analyze and assess the potential impacts on environmental resources, and determine compliance with the Commission's rules, policies, and other laws such as the National Environmental Policy Act and the Clean Water Act. The job responsibilities will include interactions with the hydropower industry, federal and state agencies, and other effected stakeholders including members of the public.
    The mission of the Office of Energy Projects is to facilitate potential benefits to the nation through the review of natural gas and hydropower infrastructure proposals and minimize risks to the public associated with the FERC jurisdictional energy infrastructure.     Major Duties include:

    • Analyzes data on construction practices, engineering economics, flow and reservoir operation modelling, geology and soils, erosion and sediment transport, water quality modeling, river hydrology, groundwater, and marine and freshwater environments, as they relate to the construction, modification, operation, and maintenance of hydropower projects.
    • Prepares engineering reports that summarize the results of all studies performed.
    • Ensures compliance with Commission regulations and the terms and conditions of issued licenses and exemptions through reviews and recommendations on engineering compliance matters.
