    EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

    In this position, you will serve as the Hazard Mitigation Branch Director Type II, and support personnel across the country working to support the citizens and first responders to ensure that the nation works together in mitigating all hazards as a member of the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration, Insurance Mitigation and Readiness Division, Cadre Management Branch Team. Typical duties include:

    • Managing, coordinating and implementing the Hazard Mitigation and the National Flood Insurance Program statutory requirements.
    • Managing the Hazard Mitigation group to ensure effective implementation of Stafford Act programs and National Flood Insurance Reform Act as amended.
    • Working directly with senior State level representatives in addition to a full range of local government and Tribal Nations.
    • Maintaining open communication channel with Regional Mitigation Division regarding political pressures and policy questions being raised.
    • Collaborating with State Hazard Mitigation, State NFIP Coordinator, Regional Mitigation and Headquarters Mitigation to ensure the development of a Hazard Mitigation Strategy for the disaster.

    Promotion Potential: Positions filled under Stafford Act regulations generally do not have documented promotion potential; however, dependent on an employee’s ability to perform higher level duties, the continuing need for an employee to perform work associated with a higher level position, and administrative recommendation and approval, promotions may be earned by CORE employees.
