The Audiovisual Production Specialist serves as principal advisor and senior specialist to the Creative Services Branch Chief on NSF's multimedia products. The employee assists in the creation, oversight and development of original television, radio, and other multimedia products and ensures its widest possible distribution. The employee is responsible for communicating the NSF mission to NSF's key stakeholders using multimedia products and web-based multimedia technologies. The employee serves as a liaison for multimedia planning and provides professional guidance in all aspects of multimedia use to further NSF objectives. The employee provides broad direction, policy, and goals to the federal staff and works closely with contract staff. The employee plans and directs the division's activities, determines requirements, selects typical and unique methods to be used, approaches to be taken, and coordinates federal and contract staff activities. Specifically:
Serves as principal advisor and senior specialist to the Creative Services Branch Chief on NSF's multimedia products.
Assists in the creation, oversight and development of original television, radio, and other multimedia products and ensures its widest possible distribution.
Develops products that are highly complex, critical, and often large-scale, intended for multiple uses and audiences.
Provides expert technical and administrative guidance, advice, and assistance for all NSF directorates and contractors on multimedia matters that affect public understanding of NSF's programs and its objectives.
Interacts with NSF personnel, including the Director, Assistant Directors, Program Managers, and occasionally NSF Board Members. Contacts with grantees, other scientific organizations, and other agency personnel at all levels are maintained. Ensures the acquisition of required technical, logistical, and location support. Initiates appropriate staff action as necessary to adjust plans and programs to expedite high priority support requirements.
Based on proven experience as a fully qualified radio, television, and video writer-producer-director-editor, the employee is closely involved in the creative processes that culminate in finished programs, from selecting subjects to approving and editing final scripts before production. Responsible for the general management of NSF activities with the television and radio media involving NSF-produced multimedia material.
Secures and works with radio, television, and film personalities to provide free public service time for promoting NSF on radio and television.
Serves as a first line supervisor responsible for planning work, adjusting priorities, assigning work, evaluating work, providing advice/guidance, conducting interviewing, recommending hiring, resolving complaints, implementing disciplinary measures, identifying training needs, improving efficiency and effectiveness, and participates in the performance review process.

To qualify at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in federal service leading the creation of multimedia products. Examples of specialized experience include: creating, overseeing, and developing original video and audio products, television and radio products; communicating an organizational mission to target audiences; directing visual information programs; managing and overseeing the logistical aspects of video production; and working with members of the news media, science community and the general public to distribute informational products on behalf of an organization.
In addition to one year of specialized experience, applicants must meet the Selective Factor. Candidates who do not show in their resume that they meet the Selective Factor will not receive consideration for this position.
Selective Factor: Experience developing, producing, and executing multimedia products and strategic communication plans highlighting science and technology.
