The Interventional Technologist operates various types of imaging equipment in the Interventional Radiology Section to include CT and Ultrasound; the equipment, both fixed and mobile units, including direct capture digital units as part of the Interventional Radiology (IR) imaging plan for patients. The Interventional Technologist has the overall responsibility for the coordination and performance of the Interventional/angiography area.

Interpret requests or instructions from radiologist or medical officers. - Independently interpret and carry out the requests made by physicians.
Explain procedures, positions patients for desired results, and cushion and shield patients as appropriate.
Transfer patients from stretcher or wheelchair to radiographic table or procedure cart utilizing safe patient handling techniques and devices.
Participates in timeout procedures to properly identify the patient and images.
This is essential so that mistaken identity of patient images does not occur.
Responsible for the intravenous injection of contrast media.
Prepare room, equipment and material needed for patient procedures.
Prepare contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing exams requiring injectable solutions for the purpose of performing a variety of studies to include but not limited to: vascular studies, arthrography, neuroangiography, Myelography and Vertebroplasty.
In the case of injected media, a patient consent form must be obtained when required.
These procedures require the use of needles, syringes, and various types and concentrations of IV contrast. Follow prescribed protocols required to perform procedures.
Observe patients during procedures and report complications or unusual events
Process images using acquired on digital systems.
Perform computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, credit of patient visits, complications and/or quality improvement activities of the department.
Maximize patient throughput by contacts with escort, ward secretaries, nursing personnel, etc.
Maintain a clean work area and adequate level of supplies within assigned work areas at all times.
Act in a professional, cooperative manner towards patients and staff.
Responsible for the quality assurance of the image (positioning, label, technique, network information) prior to transmission to the PAC's network.
Assist house staff in use of PACs viewing stations and system and digitize films for the network and/or transmission to offsite locations.
Provide education to patients and their families on imaging procedures.
Incumbent schedules outpatient clinic appointment using the Electronic Healthcare Record scheduling options.
Uses established business rules to schedule appointments for veterans and enters administrative notes in the Electronic Healthcare Record.
This includes clinic visits and consultations. Incumbent complies with mandatory training requirements for the outpatient scheduling process.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00a.m. to 3:30p.m.
