This position is located in the Division Counsel (Small Business & Self-Employed). The incumbent is recognized as an expert in all aspects of tax controversy work. In Tax Court Litigation matters, the Special Trial Attorney (STA) leads and manages litigation teams in handling some of the largest, most complex and visible Tax Court cases in the Office of Chief Counsel. In the pre-litigation controversy arena, the incumbent leads and manages teams in addressing novel pre-litigation projects and works closely with the Internal Revenue Service in addressing the most complex and challenging matters facing tax administration.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Applicants must possess a J.D. and have one year of general legal experience plus three years of professional legal tax experience. An LL.M. degree in the field of the position (tax) may be substituted for one year of general legal experience listed above.
Specialized experience may have been gained while employed in a professional legal position in the Federal, state, or local government, the private sector including law firms, or nongovernmental organizations.
