This position is located in the Health Information Management (HIM) section at VA Maine Healthcare System (HCS). Health Information Technicians (HITs) review, analyze, abstract, compile, maintain, and extract information from the health record. They also check for completeness and accuracy of the health record, and monitor and report for regulatory compliance.
GS7 is the full performance level for HITs. HITs review, analyze, abstract, compile, maintain, and extract information from the health record. Check for completeness and accuracy of the health record, and monitor and report for regulatory compliance.
The organizational structure is large and complex with hospital based outpatient services, acute medical and surgical wards, intensive care units, extended care services, Nursing Home Care units, Spinal Cord Injury Unit, Domiciliary, Home Health, Community Based Outpatient Clinics, Telemedicine, Dialysis, Radiation Oncology, and various independent research programs. The section plays a major role in training medical residents and allied health professionals in nursing, pharmacy, social work, public health, dentistry, and other health care programs.
